I am disgusted with all of this....as usual, thank you for bringing clarity and real journalism to this story.... this is old school, first class journalism from you, always...as far as CUPE, I am beyond disgusted but not surprised.... I have been in this union now for 24 yrs and they have been captured like the rest of the unions for years....we just haven't noticed...it sickens me because this is my third union to be part of and was/am a shop steward and a proud member that thought human rights and fairness was their mission statement......no more....they are just another arm of the gov't or the employer and workers are NOT being fairly represented.....now it just feels like my dues are going to fund everything I am against...they are a propaganda machine just like the rest of the captured organizations.... despicable.... https://gettr.com/post/p1va6ik5a79

With 9 years in Israel, service in the IDF, good knowledge of Hebrew and careful following if Israeli media, perhaps I can offer a somewhat useful opinion (assuming that opinions are ever useful)

1) You are absolutely correct about Bibi losing power as soon as the guns are silent. Pretty much every Israeli commentator agrees on this. The reasons are legion - and the Hamas attack and its handling are simply the last drop that causes the cup to overflow. To top it all, the way he's handling the response POLITICALLY (as opposed to militarily - which we can debate) is subject to fierce debate. The man is obviously corrupt through and through. Now he wants to be not just PM but also the Supreme Leader of the Armed Forces, attempting, as I understand it, to wrest control of the decision making from the Ramatkal (Chief of Staff). I could go on: his sellout to Pfizer and the latest judicial controversy which is too complex to write about here

2) Where I do agree with Bibi is in his "Hamas is ISIS" proclamation. Not because of the horrific beheadings (which, as you point out, may not be true) but because it's a useful reminder to the WHOLE WORLD that these Genghis Khan-like barbarians must be eliminated from the face of the earth. ISIS is a better known name to the masses in America and, let's face it, these bloodthirsty goons are no better.

3) Now the thorniest point: the military response. Here, I'm afraid, any leader - Likud or Labor - would have very little choice. The nation of Israel will accept nothing less than the total decimation of Hamas. There will be horrendous collateral damage but no military commander believes in the notion of "proportionate response". If you attack me with a kitchen knife and I have a gun handy, I'll use it and worry about the consequences later

Lastly: I was in Israel in October 1973 (I've written about it elsewhere) We spent a few days in bomb shelters and up until this October - exactly 50 years later - no one would have believed that Israel would be caught with its pants down ever again and yet - here we are. Tragic!!

I watch the young IDF soldiers and officers and I am filled with pride. If only we had a country in 1942, my mother z"l would not have had to endure three years of Hitler's hell in Auschwitz.

Get well soon, Trish. Love your writing and your podcast (even if I'm a bit less of a Trump fan than you haha 😆)

Much love ❤️
