This is great, thanks for pulling together all these threads.
I think we have a real opportunity for meaningful public input into these decisions about data centres in our communities, and this article provides important Canadian context about things that aren't getting enough coverage.
The Tucker/O'Leary conversation was illuminating. O'Leary is a flim flam grifter addicted to selling snow to Eskimos. He would have been a great politician because he can't give a straight answer other than he hates the Chinese & we'll be at war with them in the very near future, classic fearmongering. This is why we need these data centers ASAP because it'll be drone on drone warfare & we'll lose without his shining light to save us.
Ultimately, he wouldn't give a straight answer to why we need these monstrosities of computing power. There are no straight answers, IMHO, because no one is going to like hearing them. We're going to be vassals of the State under constant surveillance, a China lite if we're lucky.
Funny how the environmentalists aren't squawking louder considering the gigantic amounts of heat, power & water these things will be consuming. I guess we're not in an existential climate crisis after all.
The human and environmental costs of these things are just not worth it. Just because we CAN doesn’t necessarily mean we SHOULD. Look at the situation in that town in Georgia with the unmanned WAYMO lift service invasion. They are trying to replace manpower with these Ai elements. Let’s just let PEOPLE do the peopley stuff.
Also, I’ll never grasp how a person like Carney- with literal hundreds of conflicts can ever run to be PM- it’s an affront to real democracy, but everything in Canadian politics is now.
Also, if MC is so terribly worried about the globe and global warming…. that he wants to go forward with the Pathway$ project- he should pick a lane, because these Data Centers are huge energy consumers, heat producers, and carbon producers. Imagine the carbon footprint on their construction alone??? Ohhh but probably no worries, there will be a charge for the carbon output…. which one of Mark’s investments will benefit from.
If I had to step away from all of this stuff tomorrow, I could. I’d only miss the crafting and cooking content.
What all of this supposed “advances” are doing to us as the human condition, are eliminating that humanity.
Whatever one thinks of Naomi Klein in the present her book the Shock Doctrine describes what is happening in the 2020s very well.
Related, notice all the constant attempts at creating hysteria in the West since 2020 with AI, the Climate Emergency, Covid, Iran, Mass Graves, Mass Migration, etc.
Many studies of voting patterns show that it is the *so called educated* cohort most susceptible to the blandishments of government propaganda. The reason cited is that the educated are inclined to upwardly mobility, imagining they are more insightful than the masses.
Curiously though the *so called educated* believe themselves smarter and better and so only read the missives promulgated by the likes of the BBC or the CBC in Canada or the New York Times in the U.S.
The *majority* of the newspapers in Canada are majority-owned by U.S. hedge funds. IHeartRadio is owned and operated by iHeartMedia, Inc, a publicly traded American mass media corporation. Yes they are operated under an exclusive partnership by Bell Media.
Then there is the Globe&Mail. Sure the Thompson family scion owns Globe&Mail but many do not know that the Thompson family owns Thomson Reuters. What else do you need to know?
Would the Chinese allow a U.S. hedge fund to own say, China Daily? As my wife is inclined to say; Please!
The political parties in Canada are subservient to these exogenously owned U.S. enterprises—which are obviously propaganda arms of U.S. government policy. And these enterprises are subsidized by *we, the taxpayers* whom are disinclined to read anything which they deem conspiracy theories. The people *we, the electorate* voted for allowed this to pass the so called scrutiny in the Senate—after being approved and/or ignored by the House of Commons.
Truly Canadians are brainwashed. The *so called educated* who believe themselves smarter and better than the average Joe or Joan, never voiced an objection while most still approve of Mark Carney. The epithet a “wolf in sheep’s clothing” was coined to suit the Mark Carney’s of this world.
The word to describe many of his supporters is “smarmy”— they are out there in abundance!
Data centers will set the stage for more intense surveillance of the people and then more limiting of our rights. We have sold our souls to the devil for exchange of convenience
Thanks for this. Especially with charts and from a Cdn viewpoint.
Tucker made mincemeat out of Kevin O’Leary. It seemed like O’L did much of the talking and listening to his apologetics for his decisions and reasons was painful. I would have happily listened to two more hours, but O’L is a busy man and had to go … 😏
I do wish Tucker had asked for clarification re air-cooled Data Centres as opposed to water-cooled. O’L suggested he would be using air-cooling. Am I correct in assuming it would work like a heat pump extracting the cold air from the warmer air. But, would not that increase the temp of ambient exterior air, and with a building six football fields long running 24-7-365 would there not be a longterm cumulative effect thus heating up the state of Utah? Tried asking AI but was unclear on the answer. I am sure there are those out there in comment-land much smarter than I am about these things and can explain it well.
So much as usual Trish with your research . From my own looking around , I think the developers who own property areas suggest benign ideas and then pivot to the latest trend which now seems to be AI related . I wonder how many in the Leaside ,TO know about the proposed site in their area for a 7 story data centre? Apparently its use has been changed 3 times by the owner (s) of Beeches Development . I suspect the costs of the homes will decline with whatever is the off shoot , not to mention the rising costs of energy and other taxes. Another area that I find seems to be ignored on many levels with rarely any mention is Ms Fox's significant role in the Eurasia Group with Solomon plucked from this group. Even the name EURASIA seems to match what Carney says in Canada being more like Europe (?) and his entanglement with mainland China admiring how effectively they govern: think about the McKinsey Group that China admires and emulates with their blind trusts/ screens and ndas. The Eurasia group from my research , but what do I know ,is heavily entangled with Brookfield ; it's curious how the media seems to want to ghost her with all that net zero stuff that we all will be paying for , for many years.
This how the K-shaped economy works - Privatizing gains and socializing the losses. Just as F.A. Hayek described in his seminal 1944 publication "Road to Serfdom"
All this goes to show how utterly fraudulent Carney Boy's net zero, climate focused "goals" truly are. There is nothing more destructive of those net zero "goals" than AI centres; it's all BS and the Canadian public will be paying the price for its own enslavement.

Seems O’Leary has a big commitment problem- I guess he’s no gambler.
Everyone else gambles, he has the opportunity to back out.
How about commit to the project or not…… because if HE can’t….. then it’s obvious that the concerned area shouldn’t either.
Talk about putting on a bad face on this project.

People suck now- except this Tribe.
Great piece Trish
Trish. Watch Dr. Chris Martenson’s latest video on YouTube . The math isn’t mathing.
Great article.

This is a map of the data centers being erected in the states and the proposed buildings. So many. So frightening.
No way to vote yourself out of this. And Mr Carlson, wasn’t his old man CIA?
Thanks for this. Especially with charts and from a Cdn viewpoint.

The helium and (and therefore) microchip shortages, which seems to have been a trend of the past few years, to me looks like an inevitable end of the data centre expansion. See https://natesnewsletter.substack.com/p/executive-briefing-33-of-the-worlds and Nate's youtube video about it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTkqCREdMXo
Many thanks.

Crazy, eh?
The masses continue to fund the massive transfer of wealth from their pockets to the unseen elites.
