I’m so sorry to read this news. I’ll never forget Debbie and I feeling a little star struck when we first saw and met you at the Free Speech in Medicine Conference in Baddeck. You always gave us hope through the tough COVID times. We have both been devoted to your work and have always admired your integrity. We send you our love and best wishes.
Trish, apart from being exhausted—being exhausted is not a small thing—another current word is burnout. One gets too close to one’s identifications and burnout is the consequence.
Though I would suggest that, people whom are by nature seeking to inform those among us whom are not informed, ought not take you need for distance as a caveat—unless they too, are burned-out.
So what if the majority of podcasters are compromised by their ignorance—when has the world not been larded with deception and loud opinion?
The world needs steady voices. The powerful always co-opt those who would tell it as it is. Fighting the establishment for the masses is a thankless task—but the voices of truth echo. Blather influences no one. Most people most of the time only serve their own narrow interests and live in a fragile bubble.
When the bubble bursts they are the ones finding themselves in the cross hairs of historical determinism. But a few people are always on the alert for the taste of truth. Most people are lazy and do not have the fortitude to do their own work. People today want things easy and for free.
Sure, lots of the same people do work hard at their jobs! …and on their careers! …but they chose jobs and careers over truth, long ago in their childhood. Parents want their children to be successful rather than tilting at windmills,
Successful journalists are *not* reporters.
Reporters nowadays are thought to be Cassandra’s—who would encourage their children to be such?
Journalism is for the upwardly mobile. Most journalists are Philistines…materialistic, and uncultured and hostile to the Trish Wood’s of this world.
People love the lies they receive from politicians and from media—those lies confirm their *beliefs* —beliefs they were encouraged to hold dear by their teachers, the politicians and the media.
Few people I talk to are moved to comprehension when I explain that the MEDIA in Canada is owned by American hedge funds. You be surprised how ignorant most people are about the nature of the power possessors.
Trudeau and Carney are merely the latest clods in a long line of the most wretched imbeciles the truly powerful buy every day. Trudeau is a bald faced liar.
His father was a communist. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms is, and was, the work of those who understood the power of propaganda.
We had John Diefenbaker’s recognition of individual rights. Trudeau gifted us group rights, though within groups, few people actually enjoy any protections from their own groups predations. Think the Indians, or whatever it is they are called today. Life on most of Canada’s reservations is wretched.
Who protected the Truckers from Trudeau’s lies? Yet few people care about others rights until theirs are compromised. Then they discover the awful truth—might makes right…
Canada’s courts are compromised—the category all Judges abrogate our rights every day. Unions run our schools and it is accurately called a *system*—the young are brainwashed. The category all teachers are brainwashers. Not to mention larding the children with emotional conditioning. Children today are not taught Canadian history. Why? Because it would expose them to truths contrary to the brainwashing which is intentionally imposed.
It is not for nothing the Founders of the American Constitution emphasized liberty. Happiness then meant not living under the diktats of the British Crown.
Would that Canada had the likes of Madison, Washington, Jefferson and Monroe!
They understood the call of Liberty. Canadians worship peace, order and an elite class telling them what to do and what to believe.
The point is it is*always* hard to fight for our individual rights and our liberty. You fought—good on you. I say bless you.
A well deserved rest you may indeed have earned. But never discouraged those who would follow in your footsteps. Your example is your work. Please do not discourage others from following in your footsteps.
The CBC is evil. Worse because it purports to be speaking for Canadians. Canadians pay for it. But few know that most media in Canada is owned by American interests.
And that does not exempt David Thomson from that indictment. Recall that his corporation is called Thomson Reuters!
The Globe&Mail serves the same interests. The most trajic aspect of being brainwashed is that the brainwashed never actually believe it to be so!
This news makes me super sad. Of course I’ve been obsessively checking your Substack weekly for your latest podcast. I wholeheartedly agree that the world has become a bit of a cesspool; why should our media be any different? As above so below. While social media it may be wild West, I definitely prefer that to the continual speech throttling attitudes on both the left and the right. Really what it is actually becoming is intolerant to speech you don’t like. That’s what the scroll button’s for. It is really hard to be a voice focussing on solutions when there’s so many problems. The whole aspect becomes overwhelming. I hope you know that regardless of how throttled you may have felt; your voice was still heard, is still heard, and is most certainly valued. While I may disagree with some of your positions (who do we ever agree with 100% ever anyway?) I respect what you have to say and how to say it and I agree with 95% of what you have had to say. We have a plethora of polarizing personalities and perspectives and not nearly enough folks who have a unifying perspective we can all get behind. I will continue to follow you and trust that when the time is right, you will be there. Thank you for your voice. #truthovertribe
I feel like we are old friends Trish! I’ve listened to practically every episode and trusted your journalism and will continue to seek your writings on Substack! God Bless you for your love of investigative reporting! I look forward to your film on the Freedom Convoy 2022!
If she was making a solid income, it would be easier for her to justify taking time from family duties and other pulls on her. There is a difference between seeking money for greed and status and seeking it as a resource to make things work for a family and an operation. Money is not the root of all evil, the love of money is. Of course maybe I read this with a jaded eye and you are not judging, but just wondering how you can help fundraise $200k to keep her operation going. I feel like we need new organizations and institutions that value ethical, principled journalism. Maybe some exist, but maybe there could be more. We need places that separate journalism from entertainment and also help educate readers/listeners/viewers aka citizens about the principles of and importance of ethical journalism. I do look at this problem as part of the bigger slide away from morality that Western Civilization has been on since the 16th century, but big events advancing this decline like the COVID operation can bring it more to the front burner of our attention. Before COVID, I was an antiwar activist and truth advocate. After COVID I decided the biggest fight is against corruption which shifted me into more an advocate for Catholicism because I see that we need a moral foundation in order to have civilization which depends on important principles like respect for truth, working for the common good, and integrity in the performance of a specialized role in an interdependent whole. But even if you won't go that far, I hope you agree that we need to create institutions that respect truth and the important role of journalism in holding the powerful to account and protecting the vulnerable and hopefully we can help fund and support initiatives to do it.
I was thinking back to how I found out about you during the Truckers Convoy and how happy I was to find you. I have lived in the U.S. a long time but remain with a green card and Canadian citizenship. I was so proud of the Canadians pushing back on the government's mandates and how they did it. I felt very lonely in those days of covid surrounded by vaccine crazy people and knew no one else that rejected the shot. It was all so surreal.
Nowadays with almost no accountability for all the crimes having been committed, and continuing to be committed, I have pulled away a lot from following politics and the usual podcasters I listened to, except yours. I will miss you, however I understand your decision.
On a brighter note, I have actually started to feel just recently, that humanity may be turning a corner and things will get better. More Truth Over Tribe will start to emerge. There will always be forces that try to fight the light of truth, and the people who can't handle the truth, but there will be enough of us that move the needle to point in a better direction.
I wish you all the very best, Trish, and hope to hear from you again some day. Thank you for everything you have shared.
I read this last night….. sat with it until today…. even though I feel tremendous loss, I get it. You say you’re good with your decision and I believe that. You really built something with Truth Over Tribe- and that will always be- Forever. I learned so much from your programs, a true professional, I was always in awe of how you knew how to approach and discuss the difficult topics- your professionalism and compassion always shone through. i look forward to your future pieces- whenever they are available, for now, enjoy your decompressing. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, you are one in a million. The ‘backwards baseball cap really made me laugh) Truth Over Tribe always and forever- Karen in SW Ontario.
Trish, thank you for everything. When I tell myself to think critically, I think of you first. You helped me through Covid. Unfortunately, I did get vaccinated to save a job in nursing I ended up leaving in 2022. I'm still angry at the people, some were friends who made such poor decisions in Covid and still believe they were right. I remember fondly many podcasts, Bundy, Bourdain, Grizzly Man. You were (are) a teacher, friend, sage, part of my memories.
Trish! Your voice is so perfect for radio. Your journalism a diamond in the rough. Thank you for what you have done. I hope you may consider reading your thoughtful articles if the desire ever struck you again. If not….simply thank you. You have given so much. Xo

This, dear Trish, says it all about the media, indie and relic: https://therandomarchivist.substack.com/p/juniper-salt-fog-feels-held-by-cbc.
I will miss your podcasts.

There's an awful lot to unpack in your farewell speech.
Serious question: If you were generating $200,000 annually from your podcast and Substack endeavors, would you still be walking away?

Miss you ❤️
Thank you for all the great years, Trish.
Many thanks, David. They were great years. I loved every minute.
