Hi Trish, I imagine you are aware of this but it wasn't clear from your comment: the menstrual products are going up in MEN'S bathrooms. This started around 6 months ago, if my memory serves me correctly. I can confirm Global affairs Canada, DnD, CBSA are all doing it.
So delightful to listen to Prof. Younes and his daughter Jenin talk about their experiences of having roots in Palestine and living in the USA.
I've been tuning into Abby Martin and her amazing You Tube podcast "Empire Files". She recommended a 2023 doco called "Walled Off". The American film crew went behind the scenes in the West Bank before 7/10. Here is the trailer but, it was well worth $4.99 for the full show.
Strategic empathy. The ability to imagine the other.
Our culture has lost the ability to imagine what it is like to be the other. To say, what would I do if I had been born Palestinian. The ability to think, if I was Russian, how would I interpret what is being written in the New York Times. The ability to imagine how the Chinese businesspeople view us painting them as the enemy. We talk about property rights. What about the property rights of Palestinians? We don't understand that if the Palestinians in the West Bank can loose their property at the whim of those with power, what happens if they want your house / business in Toronto?
It used to be that young people played chess. When you play chess to be successful, you have to anticipate the other players move. That education has been completely lost.
I'm puzzled by the way people seem to think they have to decide between 2 dreadful candidates for president in the U.S. The "hold your nose & vote for so-and-so even though s/he's a rotten candidate" approach (I can't abide Trump, for the record). There's a 3rd candidate one needn't hold one's nose about at all! RFK Jr. I'm Canadian so I don't get to vote in the U.S. election - but I won't be doing the "hold my nose" thing here anymore. I'm going to find out how to register a protest vote that illustrates my disgust with the entire election, since there are never any decent candidates/parties here. I did very much enjoy your conversation with Chris Bray though! I love his phrase "extinction eruption." I suspect there's more to that than he said, & I think it's an accurate description of what's taking place here on Planet Earth at this insane time. Also much enjoyed learning more about the real situation in Palestine from your other 2 guests. Your podcasts have been teaching me plenty I'd not known - & I'm very grateful!
Agree 100% with Jenin that many of the COVID dissidents were not really compassionate at all. The ones who were compassionate then are on the right side of the Gaza situation as well. Some names that come to mind (first and foremost you, Trish!) are Max Blumenthal, Kim Iversen, Thomas Fazi, Glenn Greenwald, and Judge Napolitano. I think there are many others, but these are the ones that come to mind now.
I have difficulty with the following: "Even so, I am fair-minded and want him to win in order to poke the eye of DC lawfare corruption." Do you really think that this corrupt man can solve corruption?
Corrupt man? Have you any proof of wrongdoing? The wrongdoing appears mighty one-sided and it's not from Trump; it's from the completely fabricated lawfare they are persecuting him with.
I can't even fathom how people like you exist in such a vacuum that you can't even see what's right in front of you.
Trump settled three lawsuits related to Trump University in 2016, agreeing to pay $25 million to settle allegations that the university had defrauded students.
In 2019, Trump agreed to shut down the Trump Foundation amid allegations of misuse of charitable funds. This also involved a civil settlement, with Trump agreeing to pay $2 million to various charities.
Trump has been under various investigations, including those related to his business practices, his handling of classified documents, and his role in the January 6 Capitol riot. Trump has now been found guilty on 34 felony counts in a NY hush money trial.
Sounds corrupt to me .... But I'm a European. Perhaps you have different standards in America.
That sounds a little extreme considering my position, which is that "I have difficulty" with Trump and find evidence that he is corrupt - but he's obnoxious as well. What that has to do with being on substack is a mystery to me, and if you knew how many book I have read and continue to read, you'd be surprised.
Yousif Bashir in his book The Words of my Father writes that Palestinians and Jews are cousins. Both descended from Abraham. They even look alike. Reading this left me at a loss for words.
I appreciate the perspective from your articulate guest Professor Younes. We in the west have all been brow beaten about conflating anything anti-Israel as being antisemitic or anti-Jewish. My earliest recollection of this conflict was the shootings at the 1972 Munich Olympics when I was still a child in primary school. Ever since that time, the Middle East has been presented as a never ending quagmire of barbarism. Recall the fatwa that resulted from the publication of Salman Rushdie's book The Satanic Verses. Then came the 9/11 attacks, followed by the rise of ISIS. Even reports of fighting among the various Muslim sects in places like Iraq has painted a very negative image. To many of us in the west, Israel seemed the only civilized country in the region, with the tagline "The Only Democracy in the Middle East". How there could be so much conflict over a country whose landmass is only slightly bigger then Lake Ontario's surface area has always been baffling to my objectivist mindset.
Ever more difficult to comprehend is that any concession aimed at achieving lasting peace was rewarded with assassination. This applies to both sides, as witnessed by the murder of Anwar Sadat as well as that of Yitzhak Rabin.
Anyway, it is against all that I have learned as an observer of the past half century that I took in this week's interview with your sympathetic guest, as well as last week;s interview with Rabbi Shapiro.
One more point about the Trump trial. I think it's despicable to suggest that all 12 members of the Manhatten jury have been "conditioned" to hate Trump. His defence council Todd Blanche had equal opportunity during Voir Dire to dismiss anyone that showed signs of bias.
Trump has scraped the bottom of the barrell, like Joe Tacopina, Alina Habba, Jenna Ellis, Rudi Guilliani, Sidney Powell, etc.. Thankfully Michael Cohen eventually came clean.
Trump would be much happier if every one of his cases was tried before an inexperienced, hand picked dimwit like Aileen Cannon in Florida.
Glad you’re on the mend! Off topic, but using a front clip harness helps with pulling. Or the “European style” double clip gives added control. Keep up the good work!
I hit Like about the posting, but notice there's no link to the podcast - maybe that was deliberate? I do know how to access it at Trish Wood is Critical, the podcast.
I really enjoyed 2/3s of this weeks show but, no worries l won't be cancelling my subscription just because l don't share your views on Trump or your feelings about last weeks 34 x felony convictions.
I agree it was a very sad day for the US legal system and a very sad day for American politics but, something needed to change. You asked if there were any psychiatrists or psychologists that might shed any light on TDS.
I follow The Meidas Touch podcast. It's mostly legal-beagles, law professors and ex-DA's. One of their programmes however is hosted by journalist Anthony Davis and he does the Weekend Show. He has interviewed Trumps niece Mary Trump (a Psychologist) and a professor and author Dr. Brandy Lee (psychiatrist). Maybe this will be helpful to you.

Seriously, you got 'em all. Jan 6, the hush money trial. Surprised you didn't throw in the Georgia trial as well.
Good lord, I suggest you read a fkg book every once in a while. What are you even doing on Substack?
By the way, you haven't posted anything or written a note, but you're asking me what I'm doing on Substack?

Done!
Long day... will do a hyperlink now. Sorry.
PS l really think if Trudeau was convicted we'd all be doing a jig... so long as your broken foot is up to the task. LOL
