Ever see much of Gaza, from before October 7, 2023?

You may be surprised to see.

Inversion: "The Palestinian cause is flattened, with massive civilian and infrastructure loss and who knows how much damage was actually caused to Hamas. But that wasn't the point. It was always about a land grab. Netanyahu never really hid that and now with the West's help he has achieved it in southern Lebanon and Syria where Golan Heights will be further annexed, plus the West Bank and Gaza are in existential danger. Buffer zones, they will be called. "

Hamas= the Pal cause. Acquiring the Golan to prevent the butcher of Damascus's troops routinely targeting Israeli farmers = a land grab. So who should Israel return the Golan to? Assad in Russia or the Islamist terrorists? I cannot get over what a distorted view you have, which defies common sense and history.

The Druze of southern Syria are pleading with Israel for the IDF to give them cover and support.

Funny things happen in apartheid Israel.

I agree with you on most subjects but am unsure of this one. Pasting here, a post from an Israeli friend of mine. Which version do I trust? "How on earth is no one talking about this??

Just a few weeks ago, we had a strong enemy dedicated to our destruction with billions of dollars and an extensive military right on our border.

That enemy is literally no more.

Syria.

Why is no one talking about what Israel has done since Assad’s evil regime fell just a few days ago?

I don’t think you understand what Israel has done. It’s absolutely historic. In fact, I’d go as far as to say that what Israel has done in Syria this week alone is infinitely more impressive from a military perspective than what Israel did in Gaza and Lebanon, combined!

The Syrian army, the Syrian navy, the Syrian Air Force, all gone. Totally and completely obliterated.

Why Israel did this should be obvious but just in case, I’ll explain.

The fact that Assad’s regime has fallen is fantastic news. The big question mark though, is what will the rebels do once they stabilize their leadership in Syria?

I don’t think anyone has any illusions that they’ll reach out to Israel for peace. Israel has no illusions either and so the IDF has set out on an unprecedented operation to ensure that all of Assad’s military equipment, and I mean ALL OF IT, does not fall into the hands of the rebels.

The IDF has struck 320 strategic targets across Syria since the fall of the Assad regime over the weekend, in an operation called “Bashan Arrow.”

Targets included fighter jets, helicopter gunships, radars, air-surface missile batteries, ships, surface-to-surface missiles, rockets, weapon production sites, weapons warehouses, Scud missiles, cruise missiles, coastal missiles, and more.

The strikes, which began Saturday night, aimed to prevent advanced weaponry from reaching hostile groups like Hezbollah.

This is all being done with ZERO resistance and Israel has eliminated the entire Syrian army, the army that attacked us in 67 and 73, the army that sent weapons and money to Hezbollah, the army that had nuclear aspirations, the army that had biological weapons it wasn’t afraid to use, the entire thing is gone. GONE.

350 Air Force fighter jets participated in the operation, which attacked 320 targets throughout Syria, from Damascus to Tartus.

Also worth mentioning that Israel has boots on the ground and Israeli tanks can allegedly be seen all the way from Damascus.

In other words, Israel has sent Syria back to the stone ages. It is now a small weak country. One week ago, I couldn’t even imagine this scenario.

Syria is now literally Gaza, maybe even less.

Also important to remember that what the IDF has done here, in addition to everything we just mentioned, is that it isolated Hezbollah even more. Hezbollah is now totally choked from all directions.

Nasrallah, may he rest in pieces, famously said that if Syria falls, Hezbollah will fall. And he was right!

Now, what’s interesting is that the only thing we are hearing from Iran is crickets. Where are they? They have a big mouth. Where are they? Why are they not speaking up? Because they know they have just experienced a complete defeat. They know how weak they are.

They have no Syria left. They have no Hezbollah left. They have no Hamas left. They are on their knees and they know it.

Yes, Biden has sent them billions, that’s true, but no amount of money can revive them. Their tentacles have been cut off.

Iran built a terror infrastructure that surrounded Israel. They built it over decades. Their intentions were clear. That entire infrastructure is no more and they know it!

They also have zero aerial defense systems left. Or in other words, Iran is weak, naked, and totally vulnerable to what Israel is about to do next.

So what’s next?

I think all of this has taught us a few things.

Radical Islamic terrorism will always lose.

It is possible to bring a strong evil regime down from within.

When Israel knows what it needs to do, it does it better than ANY army in the world, with no exceptions.

Israel will deal with Yemen soon and then, once all the tentacles are cut off, Israel will go after the head of the snake and it’ll do so not only militarily but also diplomatically, and perhaps most importantly, Israel will topple the Iranian regime and its nuclear ambitions from within, using the millions of Iranians who love Israel and want to live in peace free of the evil regime that has hijacked their country.

Historic times, folks. Truly historic times.

You couldn’t make this stuff up if you tried.

Israel still has some work left to do, and the IDF knows what it needs to do, how to do it, when to do it, and how to achieve the impossible.

Stay tuned, folks! Grab the popcorn.

Books will be written about what Israel has accomplished this past year. Military strategists will analyze this war and teach it in their military academies.

What Israel has done in Gaza, Lebanon, Iran, Syria, and other fronts that are coming soon, no army has ever accomplished. Period. Full stop!"

So much for Peace on Earth, Goodwill toward Men.

I have never claimed to have any kind of understanding about the middle east.

All I can say is that everyone has the right to live out their lives in peace without oppression regardless of their sex or religion or ethnic background. All those people in the middle east need to finally learn to get along and treat each other and especially their women with respect. And most of all the US needs to keep out and stop regime changing.

Problem solved! (If only!)

Thanks Trish for the Coles notes version. It's likely all I can handle.

I have some thoughts on what form of “good” any of those who consider extremism and jihadists, of any affiliation, as being the victims of anything but their Stone Age ideology and disregard for life. To see western democracies and those individuals who are misinterpreting these people as victims of anything is absolutely appalling in every form. This is like saying Bernardo was a victim and we should all stand behind him for having been jailed for doing what these same jihadists do on a daily bases, but much, much worse. Where woman are owned and merely chattels to these heathens for one reason, their male desires and to bear children. Women must not be seen, heard, or interact, with any other male or instant beheading or death by horrific means is enacted. For any sane person, let alone feminists of old, to make the leap that these are the good people, regardless of their state, is mind blowing and seriously disturbing. It’s due to this continual ideological creep into our once free and democratic Western Democracies that we can begin to see the collapse of reality, the destruction of civilization, and the very control over it, by these very same extremists. We see it here in Canada, the US, and we are now watching Europe crumble under these very same ideologically, twisted, progressive’s and their backing of regimes and jihadists, aided by those who deem them repressed and victims of Western democracies. I am sorry but I cannot grasp the depth of deprivation it must take to consider this as a “good” thing, nor the collapse of Western Democracies under the rule of these people and their oppressed victims.

I am amazed that one can cheer loudly for the Freedom Convoy and yet scream even louder for the jihadist’s. I just cannot make that leap with in my head or my heart. It’s what keeps me awake at night living in fear for our future and that of my children and grandchildren children. If you thought Hitler was evil, well fans of jihad, you have not seen anything yet. I suppose you think you will be saved for aiding them, which is a seriously flawed, as you are worth less than their women, regardless you think them hero’s. You’re scaring those who know better into an early grave. Perhaps that is the very reason progressive western democracies are championing these soulless people, who despise everything you are, think, and do. Just think of the power our Trudeau /NDP Coalition Dictatorship will hold with a jihadist army to control the peons. You’re on the wrong side of reality and are becoming harmful to all those who praise freedom and choice. Both of these cherished wants are continuing to erode and instead of trying to stop it, you’re pushing us straight into hell.

We do not have to agree with others on all subjects. I understand well that Trish believes differently than I do on this subject quite vastly. It does not mean I disagree with her on all subjects. I believe we can all have different views and express them on this platform as Trish does not believe we should be in a silo where you only read and speak to those who you agree with. With out different views points it would be a very boring world. We have to believe in freedoms of thought and speech or we just live in a dictatorship with only one voice being heard. It’s a difference of opinion, not the end of the world. I am as adamant in my beliefs, as Trish is in hers. We can disagree with each other deeply and still agree on other subjects.

Trish "likes" your comment but she must disagree profusely. She stands firmly behind the jihadists and clearly regards them as righteous freedom fighters, and she views October 7 as a valid rebel uprising. Her friendly kitten cover is to hide her deviant callousness.

You are right. They are soulless people, those who would praise the jihadists. But they are showing themselves for who they are, these sickening racists, and for what it's worth, they are prepared to have their names affixed to the long and eternal record that is the internet.

The people who are killing each other in the Middle East are the descendants of the people who wrote the Bible and the Koran. Trish Wood is a journalist as real as Mary Tyler Moore from the sitcom of the 70's. I can hardly believe she can feign enough knowledge to report on Middle East affairs as if she knows anything about it. Following some "intense reading" ...?!

If you want to follow the situation in Syria I suggest you all turn to Terry Glavin who has been literally entrenched in following the story of Syria for 15 years. Find him in the National Post for starters. Read: https://nationalpost.com/opinion/a-world-of-trouble-that-has-been-years-in-the-making?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email

And for those wanting more, his Substack The Real Story is where you will find the goods.

You will notice some difference between their reporting styles. Namely, Terry is a professional journalist and war correspondent. He knows the details and he shares them with you. While Trish can only speculate like a farmer considering out loud the early signs of frost. And share her feeling about things.

Consider this (behind Glavin's paywall), and how it conflicts with Wood's make-believe report:

"...I strongly urge my subscribers not to be taken in by any of the ill-informed blockhead insistence making the rounds that Assad was bad, but his toppling will surely result in a head-chopping jihadist hellscape..." >> Really folks. Trish doesn't have a clue what she is talking about.

p.s. How long before this post is censured and deleted by Trish, who can not bear to have her "journalism" called into question?

Please. The one who doesn't have a clue what they're talking about is you and Terry Glavin. Glavin is an Israel-can-do-no-wrong apologist, whose views on the Middle East are indistinguishable from that of Netanyahu and should be taken seriously by no one who wants to actually understand what is happening there from any kind of objective viewpoint. The overthrow of Assad has been a goal of Netanyahu and the USA for over fifteen years, for which they have allied themselves with the same people who attacked the USA on 9/11. It is a disaster not only for the religious minorities in Syria, who were protected by Assad against the Sunni jihadis who are now in charge, but for stability in the Middle East.

Expand full comment

Surely there is no more comforting feeling than being protected by Assad. A humanitarian without equal.

Expand full comment

Tell that to the Christians (one of the oldest Christian communities in the world), Alawites, Druze and Shia who will now be at the mercy of the Sunny jihadis. The Assad government was hardly humanitarian without equal, but then neither were Saddam in Iraq or Gaddafi in Libya, yet the overthrow of both led to far more chaos and bloodshed. Some people learn from past mistakes, but the US government, especially the CIA, never seems to when it comes to overthrowing foreign governments.

Why should Trish (or anyone else) care about your pathetic trolling when the only thing of substance you've said (ignoring your juvenile insults) is an evidence-less insistence that Israeli apologist Terry Glavin, who's been wrong about pretty much everything when it comes to the Middle East, is a supposed expert that we should defer to when it comes to what just happened in Syria? Anyone who thinks that this is good thing, is not looking to the future, or has any empathy for the Syria. The only people who benefit are those who benefit from chaos. (This is nothing to do with Assad) Any sense of morality & right & wrong are gone with this as it is the innocent who can't get out of the way who will have their lives destroyed.
