Yah, the judiciary in Canada acts a direct arm of the federal government. The incidence of rulings that differ from the federal government's position are few and far between.
The fact that arranging a peaceful protest got Lich/Barber in legal trouble is a great example of the lack of freedom in Canada. What an embarrassment.
And even worse, they were 100% correct in their actions, standing up the an Orwellian government during the pandemic excesses.
The biggest threat to the West is the biased judicial system, who in many cases, cannot be voted out. It needs to be reformed drastically. That said, the world is very thankful to the trucker protests, since they essentially saved us all from digital and medical tyranny. Should this issue ever arise again, we should not hesitate a second and organize the protests another time, no matter what the price is, no matter how many biased judges the country has.
I have met one good judge in Canada in my life... well, one and a half. The 'entire' good judge never went to law school but was grand-fathered in. He was universally respected by criminals and lawyers alike. And he was likely appointed when Canada was still a somewhat decent place.
All the others I have met, and the children of such especially, have been people you would not want to live beside.
I am saddened by this outcome. The verdict sets an awful precedent. It is hypocrisy at its finest. Other "protests" that actually damage property and one religion's daily prayer blocking streets is A-Ok in Canada. We are doomed!
Like Buzz Aldrin said, when asked about how US astronauts got through the deadly and impassable Van Allen Belts, when Oddawa is in my way to somewhere "I just boot it."
Here in the UK there is a widespread (not universal, just widespread) los of confidence in the judiciary arising out of seemingly biased judgements but more importantly state-prescribed sentencing norms. If you are convicted of an offence which offends the indigenous population's sense of natural justice your trial is likely to be delayed and you will probably get a moderate sentence, sometimes no real punishment at all. If you offend the state your punishment will be swift and severe.
I hope Trish does not mind if I answer your question here. Happy for Trish to delete this if it's too off topic.
The proposed strike is really just a Facebook thing at the moment. There is a crowdfunder but not going well. I am sceptical.
Of possibly greater importance is a privately organised inquiry into the rape gangs. It raised £100,000 in the first 6 hours and is now just short of half a million pounds in 7 days. I have donated. The stretch target is a million which would be enough to carry out a reasonably thorough enquiry. The government refused to have an enquiry. Nigel Farage, the prominent politician running the Reform political party promised to arrange an enquiry but then back-tracked. The ex. Reform MP Rupert Lowe is now pursuing the matter. Followers of British politics will know that Rupert Lowe was expelled from Reform after Elon Musk said he would be a better leader than Farage. Meanwhile there are murmurings about civil war. This is not a happy country. I saw all this coming years ago and wanted to leave but my wife persuaded me there was nowhere to go. I think she was right. Look at Canada for instance.
Thank you, Michael, for answering my question and for providing links, and thank you too, Trish, for allowing this discussion on your platform. This is one of the only places where we can freely exchange ideas and stay informed.
Just like during the freedom convoy, or at least the initial stages of it, the Canadian legacy media effectively implemented a total news blackout about the convoy until it became so huge that they could no longer ignore it. Then, they did everything they could to smear the truckers. The Canadian legacy media has not breathed a word of the situation in the UK. I want to reply more fulsomely when I have a chance to digest the information you have provided. Again, thank you. Interestingly, Canada is experiencing its highest levels of emigration, mostly because of the economy, inflation, and the affordability crisis, but I suspect that government oppression plays a large role in people's decisions to leave Canada. This article includes a link to official government data from Statistics Canada: https://betterdwelling.com/canadians-permanently-leaving-hit-the-highest-level-since-1967/
I know many who are contemplating leaving Canada, and I'm already starting to get my ducks in a row in case the Carney Liberals form even another minority government. I worry about civil war happening in Canada, too, and it's a very real possibility if things keep going the way they are. There's a very palpable (and very un-Canadian) anger simmering across Canada over the current state of our country. Canadians are a very patient people and are slow to anger, but even us "nice" Canadians can only take so much. It's why the government is attacking licensed firearm owners, who obey all the gun control laws we already have in place, for political gain in a blatantly obvious attempt at civil disarmament. To date, not a single owner of the newly prohibited firearms has voluntarily turned any in for destruction. An amnesty order, protecting the owners of these lawfully acquired and previously legal firearms against criminal prosecution, is currently in place until after our election on April 28. I fear things will go sideways quickly if the Carney Liberals are re-elected.
Stand tall, UK brothers and sisters. Canadians love you and stand with you in your struggle for freedom from your tyrannical government, just like you stood with us during the convoy.
Bob - thanks for your comment. Just a thought about escape plans. I'm not convinced there is anywhere to go. In the 1930s people escaping from the Nazis had many possible destinations. But it's not like that now. Those who are motivated by fear of punitive taxation or authoritarian government can still find bolt-holes, and I know someone who has emigrated from the UK to Dominica, but the web of control, manipulation and deceit knows no boundaries. CJ Hopkins has coined the term "Globocap" to describe it.
I think that those of us who care about more than just self preservation should stay where we are, and work to first understand and then oppose what is happening.
Michael. Thank you again for the information you provided. I see that they have limited fundraiser donations to only people on the UK electoral role or at UK-registered companies. The powers that shouldn't be must have learned from both wildly successful convoy fundraisers.
You are right that the Globocap blob has its tentacles spread everywhere, so escaping from Canada may not be an option. For about the last 20 years, I have had an ominous feeling that I just couldn't shake that the world was slowly going to hell, and I learned survival skills and physically, psychologically, and spiritually prepared to drop out of society if things get really bad. That may ultimately be my bolt hole.
Obviously, we can't reason with the blob. If they take away our freedoms of expression and association and we can't otherwise vote our way out of this precarious situation, the only other option may be the unthinkable. I will resist tyranny and oppression, even if that means choosing a side in the unthinkable scenario.
I support my UK brothers and sisters in their stand against their own tyranny and oppression. I just wish there was a way I could show that beyond words.
I came across this article about pro-HAMAS protesters in Montreal kinda by accident. It is a National Post article published in a REGINA newspaper.
.
According to this post, Montreal pro-HAMAS protesters prevented students from entering buildings to attend their classes at McGill University.
.
I spent a good portion of the morning reviewing the Verdict in the LICH-BARBER trial. Most of you are familiar with the activities of the Trucker’s Convoy in 2022. Lich and Barber were found guilty of Mischief. The former Ottawa Chief of Police had noted how PEACEFUL the Trucker’s Convoy protests were.
.
Here’s the issue that this raise.
.
These pro-HAMAS protesters were physically preventing students from attending classes. Some of them entered the buildings to facilitate that. The Montreal Police took NO ACTION to intervene. They limited their activities to keeping the two groups separate, and they did not have to call out the RCMP MOUNTED DIVISION to accomplish that..
.
NO CHARGES for the pro-HAMAS crowd, but LICH and BARBER were prosecuted in CANADA’s longest running Misdemeanor trial. … Persecuted and found GUILTY !!!
I want to put a 'like' on your post as it is mostly true. What it fails to address is that the cynical, slogan of the recent, leering dictator. repeated ad nauseum - "Our diversity is our strength" - actually meant: YOUR (the people's) diversity is OUR (the state's) strength.
Nowhere has the old adage Divide et Impera been more often put to such terrible use than in the British Empire. It is practically 'the Science' [sic] and, as far as I can tell, the ONLY thing they learn at the WEF School for Young Leaders, before being sent to the colonies to do 'mischief'.
It is not a simple thing to understand that the condemnation of the actions of the state by the students, who do not like the idea of state-sponsored genocide enough to risk their academic carreers, actually has common cause with the Freedom Convoy which is being persecuted hyperactively in the courts for, some would argue, not liking the idea of state-sponsored genocide. After all, what has the forced, coerced, mRNA experimental jab turned out to have achieved other than an astronomical rise in 'excess deaths' and a population disjointed, broken and ready to turn on itself, at the command - explicit or implicit - of the state?
Thank you for your work keeping the lights on the Convoy story, Trish. We will NEVER forget and as you rightly mention here and there: I can disagree with people about a whole HOST of topics and still call them friend, but if we are on opposite sides of the Covoy line, I am 💯 just pretending for courtesy's sake. I consider that person an enemy. That includes people I love very deeply. It's heartbreaking.
“but rather musing on what is left when the power structure see property rights as equal to speech in service of preventing an existential crisis. “
It’s noteworthy that in Canada our right to freedoms including expression are constitutionally protected, but property rights aren’t. Did the judge ignore the hierarchy of those rights?
It's almost as if they were trying to tell us, "don't you dare rely on the "rule of law"? The law is what we say it is." The "laws" or what pretends to be "law" will be applied politically. If so, then it's not a system of laws at all.
Supporting the Israeli genocide in Gaza will secure many careers but non-violently resisting might make you guilty of mischief. This totally undermines our right to free speech and to protest. I thought Canada is so much better than the US.
Thank you Trish for all that you do in keeping us informed. We were gutted to learn this news and can only hope and pray that somehow, some way, some good will come from this dark hour. Tamara and Chris remain heroes in our books, along with all of the truckers and those who stood in support of their efforts to hold the line for our rights and freedoms against government-imposed mandates. The Liberal government has stacked the judiciary deck in their favour, and all appears rotten to the core. Heaven help us for we need divine intervention at this point.
Yah, the judiciary in Canada acts a direct arm of the federal government. The incidence of rulings that differ from the federal government's position are few and far between.

Is her dishonor still talking?

The Trudeau legacy front and center for all to see !

Like Buzz Aldrin said, when asked about how US astronauts got through the deadly and impassable Van Allen Belts, when Oddawa is in my way to somewhere "I just boot it."
The ruling is obscene and Machiavellian

A heavily redacted previously secret report authored by the RCMP about Canada's dire situation in the next few years was obtained by an access to information request. https://nationalpost.com/opinion/secret-rcmp-report-warns-canadians-may-revolt-once-they-realize-how-broke-they-are
The link (in the article) to the report no longer works. Thankfully, someone had the good sense to upload the document elsewhere on the internet. Here is a link: https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/24512494-rcmp-whole-of-government-five-year-trends-for-canada/

This is the inversion of justice. Our judiciary is corrupted by liberal politicians and has become a bad joke

According to the UN, the ratio of Civilians to Militants killed in GAZA is well below that of every other modern conflict.
